As part of the expansion of the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan, a 75 km channel has been built to enable access to Prorva, where the purpose-built facilities will be used for offloading of vessels and barges transporting project cargo (including large modular components) for the expansion of the Tengiz oil field.

Blue Water Shipping is leading a consortium with Caspian Offshore Construction, a Kazakhstan-based provider of offshore marine fleet services in the Caspian Sea, and will provide six azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs.

The ASD tugs will assist barges and vessels through the 75 km long channel, and at the offloading facility, supporting port-related work to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the cargo.

The tugs will be constructed in the Netherlands at Shipyard De Hoop, which will be responsible for the design of the tugs. According to Blue Water Shipping, the construction of the tugs will commence immediately and delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2018.

As HLPFI reported here, a consortium led by Blue Water Shipping was awarded its fourth contract relating to the expansion of Tengiz oil field during May, for the transport of modular cargo from the Black and Baltic seas via the Russian inland waterway system.  SOURCE: HLPFI
