On Tuesday, 23 October during the Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference that closed in Amsterdam last night, BOW Terminal signed a purchase agreement with Groningen Seaports for 22ha plot of land in the port of Eemshaven.

BOW Terminal has operated a 25ha marshalling facility with 525m of heavy load quay side at the port of Vlissingen in the South West of the Netherlands since 2010. With direct access to the North Sea this facility has frequently been used for projects requiring a large marshalling area for heavy items before being loaded on to heavy lift vessels. This has been ideal for offshore wind projects in the English Channel and the UK, Belgian and Dutch sectors of the North Sea.

The company has now secured a site for similar operations in the Groningen Seaports port of Eemshaven almost 400kms away in the North East of the Netherlands.

The land includes 525m of quay side in the Wilelmina Harbour with 16m water depth, the highest water depth in Eemshaven. The quay strength of this prioritized part will be upgraded to 10 tons/m², and it is planned that the terminal will be operational in Q2 2019.

BOW Terminal will focus on four specific markets, namely heavy lift, decommissioning, oil & gas and offshore wind. The new terminal will be closerthan German ports with similar facilities to many of the German offshore wind projects that are in operation, or in construction or planned.  BOW Terminal Managing Director Ludolf Reijntjes plans to bring in local companies and residents to provide their clients with the necessary expertise required for the markets in focus.
